Video filters in Microsoft Teams Meeting

Video filters are a new feature released in March'2023. Video filters allows participants to augment their video stream with visual effects. 

There are couple of options such has frames and styles, we'll look at it below with more details.

These custom filters are created by Microsoft Developers Community members.

Microsoft Teams empowers users to feel their best with AI powered capabilities that let you soften the appearance of the video feed and add backgrounds. You can apply these custom filters before/during the meeting.

IT Admins have full control of this application through Application Access Policy.

Enable the App in Teams Admin Center -

  • Login to Microsoft Teams Admin and navigate to "Teams Apps" and select "Manage Apps"

  • On the app filter type "Custom Filters"
  • Select the app to "Allow/Block" the apps. Once you enable the blocked app, it takes 8 hours before it will display on the application permissions policy.
  • Select "Permission Policies" and choose or new a new application policy.
  • Edit the app and select "Microsoft Apps" and click "Add" and search with "Custom Filters" and click "Add".






Client Experience -

  • Open Microsoft Teams and go to Calendar.
  • Choose your meeting and select Join.
  • Turn your camera on and select Video effects.
  • Choose a filter. 
  • Select More video effects to browse other available effects.
  • Select Join now to enter your meeting with the filter applied.

You consent to have Microsoft Corporation, the provider of Custom Filters, process and analyze data about your facial features to provide overlays, filters, and similar technologies based on your image. Custom Filters will keep this data, which may include biometric data, in accordance with its privacy policy. Unless Microsoft is the provider, Microsoft does not process, collect, or retain the data about your image processed by Custom Filters.


Turn-on your video and select "Video effects" and then you can choose your "background image" and select "Filters".


If you need more background images or filters click "More video effects".

You can either use "Frames" or "Styles", but you cannot use both.
