Microsoft is enforcing the License policy on the Microsoft Teams Room accounts

Before introducing Microsoft Teams Room Pro and Basic licenses SKU last September 2022, we used Teams Room Standard or Premium SKU to use Surface Hub 2S, MTRoW, and MTRoA devices.

Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) are devices that enable high-quality video conferencing and collaboration in meeting spaces of any size. MTR devices can be purchased from various hardware vendors, such as HP, Lenovo, Logitech, Crestron, and Yealink. However, to use these devices effectively, they need to be managed and supported by IT professionals who can ensure their availability, security, and performance.

Before introducing Microsoft Teams Room Pro and Basic licenses SKU last September 2022, we used Teams Room Standard or Premium SKU to use Surface Hub 2S, MTRoW, and MTRoA devices.

What is the difference between Standard and Premium SKU -

Teams Room Premium is a new license SKU that provides a comprehensive service for managing and supporting MTR devices. Teams Room Premium includes the following services:

- Cloud-based device management: Teams Room Premium enables IT admins to remotely manage MTR devices from the Microsoft Teams admin center. They can view device health and status, configure device settings and policies, apply software updates, and troubleshoot issues. They can also monitor device usage and meeting quality metrics to optimize the meeting experience.

- 24/7 support and monitoring: Teams Room Premium provides access to a dedicated team of Microsoft experts who can proactively monitor MTR devices and resolve issues before they impact users.

- Seamlessly shift to hybrid with AI-powered audio and video device experiences as the foundation for more immersive and collaborative meetings.

- Increase engagement with advanced meeting experiences like inclusive video and room layouts, chat bubble alerts, and customizations.

- Protect your meetings with enhanced security features like lobby bypass control, meeting lock, attendee mute override, and safe transfer.

- Manage and monitor your devices with advanced management features like remote device management, conditional access policies, and detailed device analytics.

Teams Rooms Standard can use below features,

- Instantly join meetings with one-touch join.

- Easily share content with wireless sharing.

- Enable real-time collaboration for every attendee with a shared digital canvas.

- Integrate with Microsoft Teams, Phone Systems, Audio Conferencing, and Microsoft InTune

- Manage and secure your devices with basic security and management features out-of-the-box

Microsoft Teams Room License (Standard, Premium) migration to Basic / Pro

Teams Room Premium is a user-based license that provides enhanced capabilities for Teams users, such as unlimited dial-in conferencing, advanced meeting options, live events hosting, and cloud voicemail. Teams Room Premium also includes access to the Teams Admin Center, where you can manage users, policies, devices, and reports.

Teams Room Pro is a device-based license that provides enhanced capabilities for Teams Rooms devices, such as intelligent audio and video, front row and large galleries, dual screen support, remote device management, conditional access policies, and detailed device analytics. Teams Room Pro also enables you to log into more than one Teams Rooms system in a room using the same resource account.

If you are using Teams Room Premium (legacy), it's time to plan for your room license to Pro. Starting July 1st, 2023, Microsoft is enforcing the license on the room accounts. Pro license provides more AI-Powered meeting features (see the below feature difference chart).

  • Access advanced features that will enhance your MTR experience and performance.
  • Customize your device settings according to your preferences and needs.
  • Control your device management and security policies.
  • Save money by paying only for the license fee and not for the service fee.
